Damaged Kakhovka Reservoir in Ukraine, Steel and ferroalloy enterprises are greatly affected
Russia's destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant dam in Kherson region has caused technological disasters, and has also affected Ukraine's mining and steel enterprises. Although the producer is not located in the flood zone, most of the water is supplied from the Kakhovka Reservoir to Metinvest and ArcelorMittal in Krivirog. These companies have to suspend production.
Although the mining enterprises of ArcelorMittal Krivirog and Metinvest Group are located in the Dnipro region controlled by Ukraine, about 70% of Krivirog's water supply comes from Kakhovka Reservoir. Therefore, local authorities announced the need to "minimize the water consumption of industrial enterprises as much as possible".
Hainan West Asia Group learned that in order to reduce water consumption, ArcelorMittal had to close its steelmaking and rolling production, while the blast furnace workshop, coke plant and mining equipment were still in operation. Within the next 3-4 days after analyzing the drawdown depth and other consequences of the Kakhovka Dam, the company can assess when the normal operation mode can be resumed
The destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydropower station and the consequent discharge of water from the reservoir will limit the water use of ferroalloy enterprises, as well as mining and processing plants, ultimately leading to the interruption of ferroalloy production in Ukraine.
