Russia Vladivostok Becomes a Transit Port for China's Domestic Trade
China has taken the Russian port of Vladivostok as a transit hub for domestic trade materials. Starting from June 1st 2023, Chinese goods can pass through without going through customs procedures.
According to the General Administration of Customs of China, from June 1, products transported from northeast provinces to southern China can be delivered through the port of Vladivostok.
Vladivostok was a region of China until 1860, when the Qing Dynasty handed it over to the Russian Empire according to the Convention of Peking. At present, Vladivostok is the largest port city on the Pacific coast of Russia, the sea transportation hub in the Far East of Russia, and the headquarters of the Russian Pacific Fleet. Heilongjiang Province and Jilin Province are bordered by Vladivostok, and there has been no direct sea passage for 163 years. The goods must be transported by land to Port of Dalian, more than 1000 kilometers away, and then shipped from there to southern China. Chinese media pointed out that this decision will help reduce transportation costs, as it means that road transportation will be shortened to around 200 kilometers, which will promote the development of these provinces.
Hainan West Asia Ferroalloy Group believes that Vladivostok's entry into China's trade system is "a breakthrough in Sino Russian economic and trade cooperation in the context of the Russian war, and also a new breakthrough in Sino Russian local cooperation".
In February of this year, the Ministry of Natural Resources of China issued a regulation on the content of maps, requiring the addition of old Chinese names to existing Russian place names in eight areas along the Russia China border. This means that Vladivostok, the administrative capital of the region, will now use the official Chinese name of "Haishenwai
